Six vials, each containing approximately 1 dram (1/4 oz) or 2 drams (1/2 oz) of powder, will get you started in using natural stone pigment powders in your own artwork.
These powders are hand milled (by me!) from stones and soils that I find in the mountains and deserts surrounding Santa Fe, New Mexico. They can be used in a variety of artistic media – watercolors, acrylics, oil paints, plasters, encaustic waxes, and more.
Each pigment has its own characteristics – “grittiness”, opacity and color, but all are colorfast. Stone pigments have been used by the great masters for centuries. Now you can use them, too.
In the photos, look at the labels to get an idea of how the pigments become darker and more intense when made into a watercolor paint. The unpredictability of these colors in your particular medium is part of the excitement!
(Please note: some of the colors in this set are available in an extremely limited quantity. I will change the photos when I change the exact pigments in the set.)
