Earth-based Pigment Progress

It’s been a little while since I posted the progress from my hand-processed, earth-based pigment project. After my trip to the coast a few weeks back, I created a flurry of pigment powders from the stones that I found.

Then I finalized the details of a residency this Summer to study with a renowned printmaker who specializes in transparent color layering. So now, in preparation for that residency, I’m focusing my current work on increasing my experience with transparent color. When I arrive at Karen’s studio, I want months of solid experience under my belt so that I can get the most out of my time there.
As a result, the earth pigment experiments will sit in the background for a while. I’ll keep collecting pigment sources as I explore nature and get back to printing with them, I’m sure, but with a more thorough understanding of how I can combine them to best advantage in my work.
